Can a GP treat migraines by phone?
Yes, for people with a known pattern of migraines. Your GP can review your treatment, discuss prevention and send an eScript where appropriate.
When is a headache an emergency?
Call 000 for a sudden, severe headache, or one with weakness, numbness, confusion, trouble speaking or a stiff neck with fever.
Can taking pain relief too often make headaches worse?
Yes. Using some headache medicines on many days a month can cause 'medication overuse' headaches. Your GP can help you plan.
What's a headache diary?
A simple record of when headaches happen, what you were doing and what helped. It makes it easier to spot triggers and choose treatment.
Can I get a certificate for a migraine?
Yes, if the GP finds it appropriate. It's emailed after the consult.
