Can a GP treat a gout flare by phone?

Often, if you've had gout before and the flare looks typical. Your GP will check your health and medicines and send an eScript where appropriate.

Why do I need to see someone in person for my first flare?

A first hot, swollen joint can sometimes be an infection, which needs urgent examination.

How can I prevent gout?

Some people need long-term treatment to lower uric acid. Cutting back on alcohol, sugary drinks and some foods also helps.

Will I need blood tests?

Usually, to check uric acid and kidney function, especially if you're starting prevention treatment.

Can I renew my gout medicine online?

Yes, if it's been stable for 6 months or more, from $17.99.
