Video consults for skin

Clearer skin starts with a plan.

Acne can knock your confidence. A video consult lets an Australian-registered GP see your skin, talk through what you've tried and build a treatment plan with you.

What we can help with

  • Mild to moderate acne

Blackheads, whiteheads and pimples that over-the-counter products haven't fixed.

  • Prescription options

Where appropriate, your GP can prescribe creams or tablets and explain how long they take to work.

  • Review and adjust

Most treatments take 8 to 12 weeks. Regular reviews help you stick with what works.

  • Hormonal acne

Acne linked to periods or PCOS, with tests where needed.

  • Dermatologist referrals

For severe or scarring acne, or when stronger treatment is needed.

  • Confidence and mood

Acne can affect how you feel. Your GP is happy to talk about that too.

Is telehealth right for you?

When a phone consult works, and when it doesn't

A Teledoc GP can usually help with

  • Acne that hasn't improved with pharmacy products
  • Reviewing a current treatment
  • Hormonal acne
  • Repeat scripts
  • Dermatologist referrals

See a doctor in person or call 000 if

  • Severe, painful or scarring acne: you may need a dermatologist
  • A rash with fever or feeling very unwell
  • A sudden, widespread or blistering rash
  • Skin changes in a mole or spot that's growing or bleeding
  • Swelling of the face, lips or tongue: call 000

Some strong acne treatments can only be started by a dermatologist. If that's what you need, your GP will refer you.

Can a GP treat acne by video?

Yes. A video consult lets your GP see your skin. Good lighting helps, and you may be asked to send photos.

How long does acne treatment take to work?

Most treatments take 8 to 12 weeks to show a clear improvement, so it's worth sticking with a plan and reviewing it.

Can you prescribe stronger treatment?

Your GP can prescribe a range of creams and tablets where appropriate. Some strong treatments must be started by a dermatologist, and your GP can refer you.

Can acne be hormonal?

Yes. Acne linked to your cycle or conditions like PCOS may need blood tests and a different approach.

Is it worth seeing a GP for mild acne?

If pharmacy products haven't helped after a couple of months, or acne is affecting how you feel, it's worth a consult.
