Can I talk to a GP about mental health by phone?

Yes. Many people find it easier to talk from home. Your GP will listen, ask some questions and talk through options with you.

Can I get a referral to a psychologist?

Yes. Your GP can discuss whether a mental health treatment plan suits you and refer you. Medicare rebates for psychology depend on eligibility; ask your GP.

Can you prescribe medicine for anxiety or depression?

Where appropriate, your GP can discuss medicine as part of your care. It usually works best alongside other support.
