Bone health reviews

Strong bones, at every age.

  • Blood tests

Vitamin D, calcium and other tests where needed.

  • Treatment

Where appropriate, your GP can discuss treatment and review how long you've been on it.

  • Falls prevention

Simple steps at home that lower your chance of a fall.

  • Exercise and diet

Who should have a bone density scan?

People with risk factors such as a previous fracture after a minor fall, early menopause or long-term steroid use, and everyone aged 70 and over. Your GP can advise.

Can I get a bone density scan referral online?

Yes. After a review, your GP can email you a referral.

Can I renew my osteoporosis treatment online?

Yes, if it's been stable. Some treatments need regular reviews of how long you've been on them.

Can men get osteoporosis?

Yes. It's less common, but men can have it too, especially as they age.

What can I do to protect my bones?

Regular weight-bearing exercise, enough calcium and vitamin D, not smoking and limiting alcohol all help.
